Darshan Vilas
An iconic Nawabi-era residence that blends Indo-Islamic, European,
and colonial influences, showcasing Lucknow’s architectural evolution.
Darshan Vilas Kothi, popularly known as the Chaurukhi Kothi or
“House of Four Faces” —each of its four façades reflects the design of
another prominent Lucknow landmark, including Dilkusha Palace, Kothi
Farhat Baksh, and Musa Bagh. This deliberate architectural synthesis
makes it one of the most experimental and symbolically layered
Nawabi-era structures.
The restoration of Darshan Vilas focused on recovering the building’s original architectural legibility through minimal and precise intervention. Emphasis was placed on conserving original fabric, reinstating proportional order, and using compatible materials and traditional techniquesallowing the building to retain its age, character, and quiet authority within the historic urban fabric.
