Roshan Ud Daulah

Roshan-ud-Daula occupies a quieter position within Lucknow’s historic fabric, yet its presence has long shaped the everyday urban experience around it. Unlike grand riverfront palaces, this kothi was conceived as a refined residential structure one that balanced formality with habitability, and architecture with daily life.
The building’s character lies in its measured scale and controlled detailing. Its façades are composed not to dominate, but to belong using proportion, rhythm, and depth to create an architecture that is dignified without excess. Openings, wall planes, and architectural elements were designed to respond to climate, movement, and long-term use rather than visual spectacle.
The restoration of Roshan-ud-Daula focused on re-establishing this lost equilibrium. Interventions were selective and deliberate, aimed at stabilising the structure, recovering material coherence.
