Awadh External

The Awadh external commercial stretch is one of Lucknow’s most active urban edges defined not by a single monument, but by continuous arcaded façades, dense retail activity, and constant pedestrian movement. Any intervention here had to balance heritage character with the realities of everyday commerce.
The scope of work focused on comprehensive façade and streetscape upgradation, aimed at restoring visual coherence while improving functionality for shop owners and the public.
Key interventions included:
  • Installation of uniform lighting systems to highlight architectural arches and elevations, enhancing nighttime visibility and safety
  • Provision of structured APC boards for shops, replacing cluttered signage and restoring façade rhythm
  • External painting and surface treatment, matched to the architectural language of the street
  • Structural repairs and strengthening, addressing weathering, cracks, and long-term material fatigue
  • Cleaning and consolidation of architectural details, ensuring consistency across the continuous frontage
Rather than individual shop-level treatment, the project was approached as a single urban composition. Lighting was designed to reveal architectural depth without overpowering commercial signage. APC boards were standardised to respect proportions of arches and openings. Structural and surface repairs were executed to ensure durability under heavy daily use.
